I saw Mr Norton 11 years ago at Duchy Hospital to get results of a scan, I was concerned as a shadow had been seen in my pelvic bone, but Mr Norton put me at my ease straight away and informed me that this was a collection of red cells and was nothing to worry about, he also informed me of the degenerative condition of lower vertebrae and osteoarthritis in hips, he was very pleasant and answered my questions, he also told me I would need a hip replacement in about 5 years in the left as it was worse than the right. In December 2022 I was informed that a recent hip X-ray showed that my left hip had deteriorated and was now severe and the doctor would be in touch in the new year. When she telephoned, surgery was disgust and my name being added to the waiting list, I requested to be added to Mr Nortons list as had seen him before and feel that I would like him to perform the operation, the Doctor said she would carry out my request, however this did not happen as in February I was informed that I was on another surgeons list. However I made enquiries and several telephone calls and finally spoke to someone in the booking office at St Michaels Hospital, I explained the above and she said it would be no problem to switch me over onto Mr Nortons list, I was extremely grateful and could now relax. On 12th December 2022 I attended my appointment at St Michaels Hospital to see Mr Norton, a very pleasant nurse escorted me to his office, he arranged for an X-ray after which I returned and he pointed out that my hip had collapsed down as on the X-ray and he would be placing me on his urgent list for surgery which should be around 3- 4 months time. I was relieved that it wouldn’t be much longer to wait now thanked Mr Norton saying that I was very grateful. The Nurse then took an MRSA swab before I left. I would just like to say that the whole experience that morning was very positive, everything went smoothly, the staff were really lovely and I left feeling excited that it all went so well and I would soon be back to walking my dog on the beach.

I have had a hip replacement operation performed by Mr Norton and his team which went very well. At my six week check up I had a particular concern and Mr Norton listened very carefully and went out of his way to reassure me. He was very kind and I very much appreciated his advice which reflected his skill and experience as a surgeon.

I met Mr Norton 11years ago when I was referred to him for post MRI results which showed a shadow on my sacrum, I was apprehensive about the result but Mr Norton put me at ease saying it was nothing to worry about and that it was just a cluster of red cells, I was so relieved, also at that appointment he informed me of the presence of osteoarthritis in both my hips the left being the worst and I would probably need a hip replacement in the future, he was very personable, answered my questions and pointed out details on the screen, I knew then that I had confidence in him and felt that when I needed surgery in the future I would like him to perform it. When my GP informed me in December 2021 that my recent X-ray showed severe OA we discussed my being referred for surgery, I requested to be added to Mr Nortons list which did not happen however I telephoned St Michaels Hospital and explained to the lady she said that there was be no problem and would switch me to his list right away, I was delighted. I met Mr Norton again on the 12th December, I was very glad to see him again, he sent me for an X-ray and upon my return he showed me the X-ray explaining that the hip was collapsing down and that he would put me on his urgent list for hip replacement which would probably be within 3-4 months, I was shocked to see the deterioration that had taken place in a year, I asked him about the right hip and he said there had been no change which was a relief, he went on to tell me that my leg is shorter because of the breakdown, he explained what would happen and gave me an information booklet containing everything I would need to know leading up to my surgery and my recovery, also I was given a consent form to read and sign pre-op. I thanked him for seeing me and told him I was relieved that it would not be long until surgery. I have every confidence in Mr Norton especially more so when a friend of mine told me he had performed her surgery and that he is an excellent Surgeon and a lovely man. My whole experience that morning at St Michaels Hospital left me feeling relieved and even excited at the thought of being pain free and upright again
